Description: Salvaged bricks from the ruins of Haywood Plantation, purportedly built with bricks from Wakefield Plantation, birthplace of George Washington, after fire destroyed it Dec.25, 1779. Today, due to coastal erosion, nothing remains of Haywood Plantation but a debris field on the bottom of the Potomac River. I most recently salvaged several dozen. Comes with descriptive plaque. Would make a nice gift for the history nerd in the family. Picture #2: the highly erodible shoreline at Haywood site. I estimate nearly 400 feet of shore has eroded away since William Augustine Washington first built there. Picture #3: boat load of bricks Picture #4: condition of brick upon retrieval Picture #5: brick cleaning station at home Picture #6 & 7: supporting documentation
