Engraved by James Thompson (Thomson) (1788 - 1850). James Thompson was an English engraver, known for his portraits. He completed his apprenticeship in engraving and then established himself independently, following the dot and stipple style. His engravings and paintings featured both leading figures of his day and those of previous periods. From a painting by Frank Stone (1800 - 1859). Painter of historical genre and portraits; born in Manchester and began to study art at the age of 24, when 31 moved to London; exhibited mostly watercolours at first at the Royal Watercolour Society and after having been made a member resigned in 1847; Associate Royal Academician in 1851; Both he and his son Marcus Stone, also a painter, were friends of Charles Dickens.
