It dates from the mid to late 1990s. The GUENEAU TYPE 458 was originally developed by a French manufacturer for the French Air Force, but the Luftwaffe formally adopted the TYPE 316, the previous model of TYPE 458, from the 1970s. After that, the Luftwaffe is said to have formally adopted the HGU -55 G based on the American-made HGU -55 P since the 1990s, and to have test-employed a small number of modified visor mechanisms for test pilots against the GUENEAU TYPE 458. This individual is just the equivalent. The biggest difference with the GUENEAU TYPE 458 of the French Air Force is that the visor mechanism, which in the French specification could only be smoked when the lever is operated and cleared, can be freely moved in and out of both the rotary knob operation and the clear/smoke. Also, the French version did not have a chin strap and the jaw was fixed with an oxygen mask, but the German version has an additional chin strap. The oxygen mask is a rare combination of Scott's German factory outer shell and GENTEX innerwear, and the innerwear was manufactured in 1997, which matches the era of helmet use. By the way, the black hard shell is also a feature of the Luftwaffe MBU -5/P. The condition of the product is that it is a surplus product with a sense of age for both the interior and exterior, but I think it is in a clean condition without any stains, missing parts, or major damage. The visor mechanism also works perfectly. I got this item through a collector in Germany around 2000, but I had never seen it before. We don't know how many individuals were actually produced because they were intended for test pilots, but in any case, I think they are extremely rare for flight helmets.
