Description: Gertrude Michael (1911-1964) was born in Talledega, Alabama. She attended the University of Alabama and Converse College, Spartenburg,SC and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music (she played the piano and violin). She appeared on Broadway in Rachel Crothers' "Caught Wet" (1931). She made her film debut playing Richard Arlen's fiancée in Wayward (1932). She starred in The Notorious Sophie Lang (1934) with Paul Cavanaugh, and starred opposite Cary Grant in The Last Outpost (1935). Two of her best remembered roles are the jealous "Rita Ross" of Murder at the Vanities (1934) one of the last pre-Code films, in which she sang an ode to marijuana (Sweet Marijuana) and as Alica Hatton, the snooty society girl in the Mae West comedy I'm No Angel (1933). Her television credits include Perry Mason, Sea Hunt, Meet Corliss Archer, Fireside Theatre (11 episodes), Schlitz Playhouse and others.
