Description: This specimen comes directly from the famous Bonanza King Mine in Pershing County Nevada. The mine operated intermittently from 1871 to 1910. Activities ceased due to the negative ratio of oxide ore to sulfide ore. Sulfide ore could not be processed economically at the time due to the technology of the era. The Bonanza King Mine was operated by John Mackay who became one of the richest men in the world from his mines in the Famous Comstock Lode in Virginia City, Nevada located just 80 miles south of the Bonanza King Mine along the Humboldt Range. The phrase "Bonanza King" was first assigned to John Mackay, hence the name of his mine and his operating company. The Bonanza King Mine is part of Nevada's early history with an abundance of documentation available online. Of particular interest is a 55 page document from Cornell University titled "The geology of the Bonanza King Mine, Humboldt Range, Pershing County, Nevada". Also of particular importance is a United States Geological Survey Bulletin #1356 stating that the Bonanza King Mine is located in "The Richest Mining District in Nevada" and "most assuredly a large percentage of the gold in the District comes from the Bonanza King Structure". The Bonanza King Mine was located in 1868 and the vein is in a rhyolite formation. The vein filling is quartz stained in places by copper carbonates and ranges in width from 2.5 feet to 5 feet and dips nearly vertically. The ore minerals are gold, silver, galena, pyrite, sphalerite and tetrahedrite. The beauty of this piece speaks for itself, and its historical significance only adds to its value. The unique composition and intricate patterns of this specimen make it a must-have for any collection. It is perfect for display or as a unique gift for someone special. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own, not only a piece of history but an actual "piece", of the Famous Bonanza King Mine.
