Description: Maker: One of the great porcelain manufacturers at the turn of the last century, William Guerin (Wm. Guerin & Co.) produced exquisite wares in Limoges and its complex history reflects that high quality. Guerin was initially a standalone company but merged with the iconic firm Jean Pouyat just before World War 1. Shortly after the war ended, the combined company became part of the renowned Limoges firm Bawo & Dotter (Elite Works), which continued to use the Guerin mark. Source: third edition of the Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frances Gaston. Age: This classically elegant salad plate has the Guerin gold overglaze decorator's mark number 4 that was in use from the late 1800s to 1932, and the green Guerin white ware mark number 3 that was in use from 1900 to 1932. Design: The versatile pattern features a thin gold band and verge line against a fine white background. The pattern name Calais appears on the reverse. Size: The plate is 7 1/2 inches wide and weighs 8.1 ounces. Condition: It's in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, stains, repairs or crazing, just a few faint utensil marks that can be seen in bright light. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
