Scarce, Numbered Limited Edition Art Card ~ #14/100 GORDY BRUNSWICK, 1954 San Francisco Seals First-Ever Card ~ Issued in 1972 by Carl Aldana Uncatalogued except for scattered individual player listings in the Baseball Card Alphabetical Checklist (Beckett, 2005) and a 2002 article in Sports Collectors Digest by SCD editor, the late Bob Lemke, this card comes from an 18-card artwork based set by Carl Aldana. A truly limited edition - just 100* or so sets being the print run - this 45-year-old set then looked back a couple of decades to the early-to-mid 1950s San Francisco Seals. Editor Lemke described the cards as: "printed in 2-by-3-inch format on semi-gloss, blank-back cardboard in black and white. The evocative portraits are pen-and-ink wash." When issued in 1972, Mr. Aldana initialed and numbered the back of each card. Just a few dozen of the cards were marked in this manner. According to the Beckett Baseball Card Alphabetical Checklist, this particular card was Gordy Brunswick's first-ever card issued. Condition: Excellent or better - check the high-resolution scans. Note: cards vary somewhat in size due to imprecise cutting.
