The traditional Japanese bamboo flute known as Shakuhachi have been used for centuries to do all of these things! There's a reason that the Shakuhachi has endured as a vehicle for enlightenment, meditation and relaxation for centuries. If you can get a sound from blowing across a glass bottle (Coke, Pepsi or otherwise!), then you can play Shakuhachi! Shakuhachi utilize the minor pentatonic - which means all of the notes "go together". Any note you play will go together well with any other note you play. This means you can play directly from the heart with a focus on relaxation and "destressing"! These Shakuhachi are made from genuine bamboo - hand selected and cured by me (I am a Buddhist priest and have been making Shakuhachi since 1986). These are designed for beginners so, while the bamboo selected is quite good, it is not "root-end". An average root-end will cost well over $500.00 dollars and a "good" root-end will set you back thousands. These Shakuhachi are tuned to D minor pentatonic which has been used for centuries for ensemble "court" music. Most modern Shakuhachi teachers will require you to start on a 1.8, D minor pentatonic. While these Shakuhachi will work for that, they are primarily crafted as a vehicle for enlightenment and meditation. This is the original purpose of the Shakuhachi when it was created by the Fu-Ke Zen monks of Japan hundreds of years ago.
