Description: Here is a white border postcard featuring a view of the STEAMSHIP OCTORARA. In 1916 the Great Lakes Transit Corporation began operating former Anchor Line steamers Tionesta, Octorara and Juniata in summer service between Buffalo and Duluth. The OCTORARA operated passenger service between Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, Mackinac Island, Sault Ste. Marie, Houghton, and Duluth until 1936. A fire aboard the luxury cruise ship Morro Castle in 1934 and the subsequent loss of 137 lives brought about new safety regulations. The expense of conversion necessary to meet these new regulations doomed the OCTORARA as a passenger steamer. This card is in excellent condition. Shipped FREE via USPS First Class Letter in an envelope with a card stock stiffener. See Last photo for shipping method.
