Description: A little history lesson first, courtesy of Proantic.com ... The artistic ceramic factory "Cacciapuoti" was founded in Naples by Cesare Cacciapuoti, who belonged to a family of majolica makers. Guido Cacciapuoti, sculptor and ceramist son of Cesare, was trained with his brother Mario in his father's factory in Naples. In 1907, Guido moved to Treviso where he met Gregorj and Arturo Martini. He participated in the 1908-1913 edition of the Trevigiana art exhibition, and in 1915 at the Ca 'Pesaro art exhibition in Venice. In 1920, he participated in the Venice Biennale with two sculptures. Meanwhile, Guido's brother Mario had founded La Cacciapuoti & C. with other potters in Milan. Shortly after Mario died prematurely in 1930, Guido (along with Mario Solesin, Angelo Bignami and Rinaldo Righetto) transformed Mario's workshop into Cacciapuoti Grès d'Arte. Guido assumed the fundamental role of sculptor and artistic director until he passed away in 1953. In Italy, during the first half of the 20th century, the Cacciapuoti factory was one of the main interpreters of animal subjects. The style focused on simple themes, which combined synthesis, naturalism and precision with a contemplative analysis. Guido's philosophy is expressed in this sentence: "In everyday life, men seek refuge: I have found it in the silence of animals and for that I am committed to expressing it." And now on to this listing ... This listing is for an incredibly detailed large bisque ceramic dog sculpture by Guido Cacciapuoti. It is wearing a tan collar. I'm not up on my dog breeds, but this is some sort of terrier, like a Scotty Dog or Schnauzer. It is signed by Cacciapuoti, and it also (miraculously) still has the Cacciapuoti foil sticker on the bottom. Base measures about 7" X 5", and it stands about 8 3/4" tall. No cracks or evidence of unusual wear. There is a tiny glaze pop on dog's back that occurred during manufacturing (see close up photo). There is also a small repair to a former chip on the UNDERSIDE of one of the "hair ruffs" -- (see close up photo). It is well done, hard to see, and only you will know it is there. If you are a collector of Guido Cacciapuoti dog sculptures, you've just found the next piece to add to your collection. Will be wrapped with care and shipped with GOBS of packing material! I am listing many other items on eBay, including many pieces of vintage and antique art pottery and ceramic items. Please check my other items, as I will be happy to combine shipping. I do not accept returns. Please examine the photos and description carefully, and ask questions if you are unsure. ABSOLUTELY NO RETURNS OR EXCHANGES.
