Description: Here is a very rare Gundlach Achromatic Meniscus Soft Focus Portrait Lens. This is the 18 inch focal length version which was the largest lens they made in this style made for use on 8x10 camera although it will cover larger formats the catalogs say. The glass is in excellent shape and is clean and clear showing just minor wear. The barrel is shiny but does show wear. It has had the disphragm in the front removed and a slot made to fit waterhouse stops in place of the diaphragm. It does not come with any stops. There are some dents in the front and rear rim but it does not effect its use. An excellent soft focus lens which are seldom seen for sale. I tested the lens out on my 8x10 camera and have included two of the 8x10 shots I took with the camera. I'm not a professional and just shot it on photographic paper with a Packard shutter opening it for 2 seconds. Even with the simple test I thought it made excellent pictures.
