Description: For sale is a copy of Gyp's En Balade, with illustrations by Petit Bob, published by Montgredien in Paris in 1897. Dated on dedication page. Bound in three quarter leather over marbled boards, now protected in a clear mylar jacket (removed for photos). Boards show rubbing/bumping along edges and corners with some scuffs to joints. Opens easily to middle and between a few gatherings, but binding is holding soundly. Pages are unmarked. Not an ex-library copy. Gyp was the pseudonym of Sibylle Aimée Marie-Antoinette Gabrielle de Riquetti de Mirabeau, Comtesse de Martel de Janville, whose humourous sketches and novels critical of fashionable society and the French political class, and her opinions made her the target of several attempts on her life as well as a kidnapping.
