Description: For your consideration, we are offering a very rare Western Han Dynasty earthenware with impressed relief, tomb panel (206 BCE–8 CE). Tombs were often furnished with grave goods to provide the deceased with items for the afterlife. I've only found one other which belongs to the Cleveland Museum of Arts. According to research, this panel with a Phoenix was part of a miniature pottery stove to be placed in a burial chamber. This scene is molded on the panel. The panel has been mounted inside a wooden frame and is ready to be displayed. According to the Cleveland Museum of Art, the panel was form a tomb in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, Western Han Dynasty.
