This wood statue is made from Monkey Pod wood which grows in, among other places, Hawaii, USA. Monkey Pod, or monkeypod, is prized for its beauty, resistance to decay, resistance to insects, and for its ease of use by artists, woodworkers and carvers. This small Monkey Pod Wood statue is a young man carrying a large chicken in his left arm, while his right arm supports a bundled bag, likely an agricultural product. Perhaps he is going to or from a market with his items. His body has realistic proportions, and he stands on a rectangular base. The base and figure are not separate pieces, they are ONE piece. It’s carved out by one piece of wood. The figure stands 11” high, 3.5” wide, and 2” deep. The figure is in very good shape and has no scratches or cracks.
