Description: Despite losing four prime seasons to World War II and another to a fractured wrist, Hank Greenberg still walloped 331 home runs, including 40 or more on four occasions. The MVP in 1935, when he drove in 170 runs for the pennant-winning Tigers, the slugging right-hander drove in 183 runs in 1937. In 1938, he made a strong run at Babe Ruth's home-run record, finishing with 58. He hit .318 in four World Series with Detroit. Hank Majeski was known as one of the best fielding 3rd basemen of his era, setting a major league single-season record for 3rd basemen with a .988 fielding pct in 1947. He played in the big leagues from 1939-55 for the Boston Braves, Yankees, Athletics, White sox, Indians (1952-55), and Orioles. Majeski helped the Indians win the 1954 American League Pennant, batting .281 with only 3 errors while backing up Rosen at third base and filling in as a second baseman when Avila was injured. He also hit a pinch hit three-run home run in Game 4 of the 1954 World Series in a losing cause against the New York Giants. He was traded to the Baltimore Orioles in June 1955, and then retired as a player at the end of the season at the age of 38. Offered is an 8.5” x 11” typed letter / contract / agreement signed by Hank Greenberg as the GM of the Cleveland Indians dated January 12, 1954. This letter contract/agreement is signed in blue steel tipped pen. It is regarding taking care of Majeski’s spring training transportation expenses to Tucson and was supposed to be returned and signed by Majeski (although we believe that this was never sent and another addended agreement was sent in its’ place).
