Before his acting career, he served in the Second Massachusetts U.S. Volunteers during the Spanish–American War. He had a brief career campaigning for the Democratic Party. A skilled banjo player, Browne performed in vaudeville for seven years before recording a series of songs starting in 1916. His first record, perhaps his most well-known, is a re-interpretation of the American folk song "Turkey in the Straw". The song relied heavily on an unusual appetite for watermelons. For the B-side, Browne choose to record the minstrel show favorite "Old Dan Tucker". Browne died in 1954 at 76 years of age. This CD was made from original disc recordings. Vocals and banjo are by Harry C. Browne. All were digitally restored by Vintage-Recordings.com ***************************************** Several Items will have a symbol next to a song.
