Gordon Whitehead, reigned down blows to Houdini's abdomen, while Houdini was reclining on a sofa, in his dressing room. The date was October 22. The young man unknowingly ruptured Houdini's appendix. Houdini ignored the pain and soldiered on with a "The show must go on" attitude. In Detroit, Houdini finished his show at the Garrick theatre and collapsed back stage.
