Description: This is a nice original 130 year old Healy & Bigelow's Kickapoo Indian Oil medicine bottle from an actual travelling medicine show which featured real live Indians!... HEALY & BIGELOW'S KICKAPOO INDIAN OIL embossed vertical on front in nice bold letters) Hand blown in mold....hand tooled double ring collar....aqua...round....5 1/4"tall....Excellent condition with no chips or damage. A shiny clean bottle..."Doc" Healy (who wasn't really a doctor), and "Texas Charlie" Bigelow were a couple enterprising men with no medical training whatsoever, who began the Kickapoo Indian Medicine Co. in the early 1880s. They hired actual Indians to tour the country in their travelling medicine shows, which according to eye witness accounts, were very entertaining in the days long before radio or television. The Kickapoo shows lasted for hours and during the intermissions, the Indians would come out into the audience with baskets full of the KICKAPOO INDIAN OIL and other bottled medicines for sale by the company. The show would not resume until every bottle was sold! These travelling shows toured the country back in the 1880s and 1890s. Their "Principal Wigwam", (headquarters), was located in New Haven, Conn.
