This original bonsai pot, Heian Senzan, is produced by a kiln that carries on this tradition. The kiln was founded in 1922 in the Sennyu-ji area of Higashiyama, Kyoto, where the pottery was produced by Heian Tofukuji and Wakuen. Today, Touan is the fourth generation of the Kiyomizu-yaki pottery family. The studio employs more than 20 craftspeople, making it one of the largest pottery studios in Kyoto. Through a fortunate chance, KINBON and Toan decided to produce bonsai pots made of Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki porcelain.　The pots are moderately high and softly designed to enhance bonsai. It is sized to accommodate a full-fledged small bonsai. The glaze is “purple crystal,” which is unique to the Kyoto and Kiyomizu-yaki potteries. The beautifully formed crystals in the elegant purple glaze give the pot a unique texture. The crystals appear differently on each piece, and no two pieces have the same pattern, allowing you to enjoy a wide variety of crystal forms.
