He sang Parsifal at the second performance of the opera at Bayreuth (1882), returning there as Tristan (1886) and Walther (1888). In 1884 he appeared at Covent Garden, singing Walther, Tannhäuser and Tristan, and sang at the Royal Albert Hall in the first concert performance in England of Parsifal.
