It is an herbaceous perennial up to 12 feet tall, with leaves resembling those of bananas. The inflorescence is erect, up to 28 inches long, with red or orange bracts subtending green, yellow or orange flowers. Growth Form: It is a herbaceous plant growing about 5' to 16' tall. Foliage: Its leaves resemble that of banana, dark-green. Flowers: Its showy inflorescence is erect, comprised of orange bracts and greenish-yellow flowers. The bracts are spirally arranged along the yellow rachis.
