Henri Philippe Petain WW I French Field Marshall Lion of Verdun Autograph

Description: Henri Philippe Petain [1856 1951] commonly known as Marshal Petain was a prominent French general who attained the position of Marshal of France at the end of World War I. During World War I he led the French Army to victory at the nine-month long Battle of Verdun. Marshal Petain and was then appointed Commander-in-Chief and commanded all French forces for the remainder of the war and became known as The Lion of Verdun. After the war he served as the head of the French Army and later commanded during the Franco-Spanish War. Listed for auction is the autograph of Marshal Henri Philippe Petain signed on a page. The autograph is signed ''Mal Petain'' and dated ''25-October 1931'' in black fountain pen. The page measures 9.25 x 7.25 inches, it has trivial toning otherwise it is in fine condition. The autograph will be accompanied with a vintage newspaper article and is also signed by George R. Hutchinson [1902 1989] on the verso. He was an American aviator and media personality of the 1930's.
