I wanted to tie an accurate match the hatch type fly for alewives. I studied photos for months trying to decide how to do that. Alewives show at least four different colors which explains why the are a couple groups of colors which make effective fish catchers. I tried incorporating all 4 colors in a layered fly and it came out messy. Ultimately I developed an effective but tedious method to streak the colors instead of layering them so the fly comes out more like living fish. This fly is the Hammered Real Alewife which displays a UV yellow layer like the photos show. The other three flies in this series incorporate other colors visible in photos. these flies all catch fish. Picking the right fly for the light conditions is the trick which is why I have a listing which offers one of each pattern.
