Description: History of Chelmsford 1910 - 1970. A rural Massachusetts town deals with explosive growth in the 20th century. By Eleanor Parkhurst. Edited by Fred Merriam. Copyright 2011 by the Chelmsford Historical Commission. Hardcover with dustjacket, 344 pp. In 1966 Parkhurst was selected to write an updated history of the town of Chelmsford Mass with the goal of publishing it for the US Bicentennial in 1976. Expanded job duties eventually prevented Parkhurst from finishing the book and the project was abandoned. The manuscript was discovered in Town Offices files in 2008 and the project was revived. This book is based on Eleanor Parkhurst's original work with contributions and updates and edited by Fred Merriam. This is a beautifully produced volume of local history describing a period of great growth and change for the town. A treat for anyone with a connection to Chelmsford.
