Description: BEFORE PLACING YOUR BID ON THIS BRASS MODEL TRAIN PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION AND VIEW ALL OF OUR IMAGES. IF YOU BID ON THIS MODEL YOU AGREE THAT YOU HAVE READ THE COMPLETE DESCRIPTION, HAVE VIEWED ALL OF OUR IMAGES, AND ACCEPT THE TERMS OF OUR AUCTION. THIS MODEL IS BEING SOLD AS-IS ALL SALES FINAL NO REFUNDS NO RETURNS. WE HAVE DESCRIBED THIS MODEL TO THE BEST OF OUR PROFESSIONAL ABILITY. With all of that out of the way, here's our model description... The GN's largest and most-powerful steam switcher was the C-1 Class 0-8-0 made by Baldwin Locomotive Works. They carried road numbers GN 810 thru GN 849. Tenshodo made several runs of this model for Pacific Fast Mail (PFM), first in an unpainted bare-brass form, followed by factory painted versions as well. All of them were powered with a large open-frame DC motor and because of the size of that motor it was impossible to have anything inside the cab other than the motor. There was no boiler back head detail, no cab interior of any kind. Tenshodo's final run of this model (THIS model) made in 1985 was stellar. They upgraded the gearbox system and installed a powerful can motor made for them by the Furuichi Engineering Company of Japan. Thanks to those improvements, Tenshodo also installed a reasonably detailed boiler back head. There's no giant motor filling the cab on this 1985-built brass model. Other improvements included hex head side rod screws (the model includes the matching hex wrench), drilling the tender for sound, installing a sound cam on the number two driving axle (the wiper, pc board, and mounting screws are included in a small plastic bag), adding a working scissors draw bar, blackening the tender wheel sets, installing a reversing lighting circuit in the forward headlight, and applying a lovely coat of paint with excellent decal application too. But those things pale in comparison to the real game changer—Tenshodo created and installed a working three-point equalized suspension system on all four driving axles—very much like how a real steam locomotive suspension was designed. The only GN C-1 models with these features come with a box label that says it has a WORKING EQUALIZER. This is easily one of the best Great Northern models that Tenshodo made. PFM began importing them into the USA a few at a time to satisfy paid dealer orders, but by 1985 when this model was made there was so much marketplace competition coming from less expensive brass models being made in Korea that PFM was having a very hard time selling Japanese-made brass models in the USA on account of the huge cost difference between the two countries. While Tenshodo of Japan made 150 of these wonderful brass models, PFM only imported and sold 36 of them in the USA. The vast majority of them stayed in Japan and were sold directly out of Tenshodo's Model Train Section within their large department store. Each of these models carries a serial number plate affixed to the locomotive's bottom plate. The model we're selling is serial number 34 of 150 and it's in almost perfect new condition with the Tenshodo coal load fully and very nicely installed. We're grading it TCA C-8 but it's more like C-8/C-9. Couplers have never been installed and the wheel treads are clean as a whistle. It's runs super-smooth, and pretty quiet too. Much more quiet than any of the earlier runs. The model is exactly as imported originally. The box is original, and has shelf wear and scuff marks. The interior foam padding is replaced with newer Reboxx foam, and is appropriate for safe shipping of this item. There is a small hex nut driver included. The condition of the model is excellent overall graded C-8, test run only, the drives work just fine and is smooth and very quiet in operation both directions. The front headlight is functional and works in the forward direction of travel; off in reverse.Coupler box mounting screws are installed in the tender's mounting pad. There may be a couple of very minor nicks in the paint from handling. Our full time professional business is 100% brass model trains. Please bid and buy with confidence. Not sure? We literally wrote the book on safe shipping methods for delicate brass model trains in any scale. Many of the best sellers, shops and auction houses use our standards when they ship brass models. We also provide claims information to the carriers so if you buy a brass model from another seller and it gets trashed in shipment, chances are good the carrier and/or seller will be contacting us to determine if the claim is valid or not. When brass models are NOT packed correctly by the seller, then usually the claims are not paid, even if there is insurance included. The carriers assume that sellers/shippers will make certain delicate items are packed PROPERLY. If not, then if it gets damaged it's NOT the carrier's fault. It's the seller's/shipper's fault. Brass model trains are very delicate, easily damaged account they are made of very soft metal, akin to jewelry with wheels and a motor added. So if they're not packed to survive the trip, they are EASILY damaged or destroyed. Have no worries about that when buying from us. Everything that we ship arrives at your location exactly as you see it advertised here today because we are expert at packing and shipping brass model trains. Our goal is always to list, show, and describe the model to the best of our professional ability so that YOU can make the best possible, informed decision, on what to bid on and buy. We know how disappointing it can be to buy things online only to find out when the model is delivered, that there were reasons why THAT OTHER seller DIDN'T test the model, DIDN'T describe the model fully, and DIDN'T show images of both sides, top and bottom of the model. None of that nonsense here folks. We want you to see EXACTLY what you'll be receiving when the model arrives on your doorstep in EXACTLY the same condition that you see it here today.
