Description: The Douglas DC-7 is a four piston engine American transport aircraft, manufactured between 1953 to 1958. The DC-7 was the last major piston engine powered transport manufactured by Douglas. The DC-7 had its maiden flight on 18 May 1953, and introduced into service on 29 November 1953. There were 338 models of different variants manufactured. American Airlines was the first airline to operate the DC-7. The DC-7C was the most common model with 121 aircraft manufactured. The "7C" model was a longer range variant with higher gross weight and fuel capacity. It had non-stop transatlantic capability with improved 3,400 hp, R3350 engines. Pan American World Airways, originally founded as Pan American Airways (more commonly known as Pan Am), was an airline that was the principle and largest international air carrier. It was the unoffical overseas flag carrier of the United States for much of the 20th century. It was founded on 14 March 1927. Pan Am ceased operations on 04 December 1991. Pan Am had 37 DC-7B's and DC-7C's in service from 1955 to 1966. This Douglas DC-7C with registration N739PA, was delivered to Pan Am on 22 June 1965. It flew with Pan Am until February 1966 when it was sold to Intercontinental Air. N739PA went through five more owners ending up with National Aircraft Leasing in December of 1970, where it was ultimately scrapped (how very, very, sad).
