Well worn antique ephemeral book called "The New French Reader" by H. L. V. Ducoudray Holstein, published in 1836 in Albany by Oliver Steele. The book shows signs of its 185 year old state. The once leather spine is partially missing, there are stains and edge wear, paper pages are butter colored from age, pages are slightly wibbled from damp sometime in the last 185 years. But the intriguing thing is the subject matter. It is chock full of short bits to read in French, and thus engaging for the modern reader or collector. An anthology of entertaining dramas of both fact and fiction for in depth learning and enjoyment of the French language. Titles are in English. Full Title page reads: The New French Reader, for the use of Universities, Colleges, Academies and Schools, containing original and selected anecdotes, biographical sketches, and characteristic traits of persons distinguished by their genius and their knowledge; historical facts, inventions and other miscellanies, useful , interesting and varied.
