Description: HOWARD KANOVITZ AND WIFE: PHOTOGRAPHIC SELF-PORTRAITS, 2007 Howard Kanovitz. Two-sided screen-printed color photograph, self-portraits, of the artist (one side) and his wife (second side), 16 1/2" x 22". Other than a 1/4" x 1/8" printing flaw to the right-center upper edge of the sheet, and minor handling creases, in fine condition. The sheet was printed by Michael Knigin (1942-2011), master lithographer and printmaker, and derives from his estate. Unmatted; unframed. Under our highest magnification, the photograph reveals a network of screen dots; we have not identified the process of graphic reproduction. On the Howard Kanovitz Foundation website, "House" (2007, number 166 and number 179 in the photo carousel there) is a self-portrait of the artist, camera pointed at the viewer, the image fragmented into 14 individual frames, while "Vessel" (2007, number 170 in the photo carousel), is a self-portrait of the artist's wife, camera similarly aimed, the image fragmented into 11 individual frames. The several "pieces" in each of these images, put together, yield the portraits on our two-sided sheet.
