Vol 24 - In 1809 Illinois split off from Indiana and became its own territory. In 1810 a census was taken of the territory. The information provided mirrors the federal census in that it provides head of household and number of males & females by age group. In 1818 Illinois petition to become a state and a census was taken to show there were enough residents to grant statehood. This census shows head of household, white males 21 and older, all other whites, slaves and free blacks. Vol 26 - Contains the state census of Illinois which shows head of household, white males 21 and older, all other whites, slaves and free blacks. The book also contains a section of the discrepancies between the 1820 Federal, 1820 State and 1818 Territorial Censuses. The names are marked to indicate if they also appear in the 1810 census. Note these are state censuses and not the Federal censuses. If your ancestors were missed in the US census they may show up in these census records.
