Description: In keeping with eBay regulations this portrait contains less than 5% total weight in antique ivory. It also was produced 1820 Also this listing is only for domestic sale An important and unique portrait miniature of a British officer, 1820, inscribed in graphite reverse “Banda, May 1820”. This miniature was taken in the small but important village of Banda on the Yamuna River in India during the British occupation there. I don’t know if the miniaturist was a British painter who worked there (like many of Britain’s best who had stints working in India) or possibly and more likely a local miniaturist. It’s excellent work and in brilliant condition. One of the most compelling features is the very rare original ivory travel frame, exceptionally made and also in excellent condition. Sight size is approximately 3 1/2” x 2 3/4”.
