Description: Pictured is a novel, shallow, flat-bottomed blue & white spongeware serving bowl offered for sale. The bowl is incised on the underside "MACOMB STONEWARE CO. - MACOMB, ILL." The mark dates the sponged serving bowl from 1898 - 1906, prior to the company's merger & becoming Plant #3 of the Western Stoneware plants. The bowl is heavily sponged & decorated with a repetitive design on the interior rim, shoulder, body, & underside. It measures 2 1/2" in height and 7 7/8" in diameter. The third picture shows two shallow flakes on the interior rim, 9 & 12 o'clock. There is a shallow flake at the base of the shoulder, see Pic. An uncommon & infrequently seen spongeware bowl from Macomb Stoneware Company. Despite my best efforts I could not picture the incising despite the correct lighting & angle.
