Description: Hello! You are looking at a listing for one small but heavy soapstone Bear Sculpture/statue by John Sinnok made in the year 1970. The Bear measures approximately 3.75" from tail to nose tip. He is lovely, stoic, and striking. Despite his size, he carries a big presence, with a focused and narrow face, large heavy body, and adorable slender ears. I love this item because the bear is the slight and abstract suggestion of a bear, and he accomplishes the "Bear" appearance without the overuse of detail. John Sinnok is an Iupiaq artist from the northern reaches of Alaska, known for his sculptural work, as well as his cultural preservation work, including helping pioneer the written form of the Iupiaq language. The Bear is signed on the bottom with John Sinnok's name, and the year 1970. Please see photos for details. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to see some more pictures. This bear will be packed with the utmost care. Please check out my other listings for more Native American jewelry and art, beanie babies, and other odds and ends. Thank you for looking and have a blessed day!
