Description: 1980 Penguin soft cover edition of Irving Penn's book, "Worlds in a Small Room". Penn was a master at natural light studio work and wanted to compile records of the diverse peoples in the world as a document and as an art form. He traveled the world beginning in 1948 to create his images in "ambulant studios". The book also contains text by Penn exploring the relationship between the photographer and the subject and the photographer and the camera. "Irving Penn was one of the twentieth century's great photographers, known for his arresting images and masterful printmaking. Although he was celebrated as one of Vogue magazine's top photographers for more than sixty years, Penn was an intensely private man who avoided the limelight and pursued his work with quiet and relentless dedication. At a time when photography was primarily understood as a means of communication, he approached it with an artist's eye and expanded the creative potential of the medium, both in his professional and personal work." This copy was lightly used, no creases to spine or covers. Binding is tight. Pages are bright, clean with no folds. There is a very creative, artistic inscription on the inside front cover, else the book is unmarked. The covers have some age toning around the edges and a tiny bump to the bottom corner tip. 10.5 x 10.5 inches. 95 pages. Ships with USPS media mail, signature required.
