It also marks the 60th Anniversary of the beginning of activities at the experimental station in Beit Dagon, now known as the Volcani Institute for Agricultural Research. 1985 also marks the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Daniel Sieff Research Institute, which later developed into the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, and the 25th Anniversary of the founding of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Its first president was Professor Martin Buber, who was succeeded by the late Professor Aharon Katzir.
