The Orcolat is a recurring figure especially in the stories of popular tradition. He would live locked up in the mountains of Carnia, every sudden shock would cause an earthquake. According to tradition, Orcolat lived in the mountains grazing pigs and other animals. One day he found some mushrooms and ate them. But those mushrooms were poisonous. So, exhausted by the terrible abdominal pains, the Orcolat fell into a deep sleep. Without the ogre, hordes of criminals came down from the mountains and destroyed everything, setting fire to the mountains. The Ogre, however, woke up one day disturbed by that noise and chased the bandits. The inhabitants of Bordano, when they learned of it, went up the mountain bringing gifts to appease the Ogre. But they found the Ogre asleep, surrounded by thousands of butterflies. So the inhabitants of Bordano painted many butterflies on the walls of their houses, so the Ogre, in order not to destroy them, walks on tiptoe on the mountains.
