Description: IT'S A SMALL WORLD 50th Alice Davis Costume Concept Art Disneyland Calendar 2015 Historic Disneyland Treasures from Saturday's Toys presents... an oversized calendar commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the arrival of "it's a small world" at Disneyland for Memorial Day Weekend in 1965. The calendar was released exclusively for 2015 with elegant design and sturdy spiral metal binding at the top of the calendar. OUR FINAL AVAILABLE OFFERING OF THESE HISTORIC SKETCHES by Alice Davis These amazing concept illustrations were created in 1963 as Alice Estes Davis (wife of Disney artist, illustrator and Imagineer Marc Davis) submitted her work in preparation for the attraction's debut at the 1964 New York World's Fair. Alice Estes Davis (1929 - 2022) was a trusted member of Walt Disney's creative team at WED Enterprises. She was designated as a Disney Legend in 2004. Her husband, Marc Davis had been previously presented with the same award in 1989. The calendar is no longer available through Disney theme parks and can now be obtained only from secondary sources (when they can be found.) The calendar remains one of the few authorized offerings that provide an extensive overview of the original costume concept sketches of Alice Davis on one of the most beloved attractions in Disney history. The back cover also features a brief bio of the artist. This collection of 12 early designs represents one of Alice's final career goals... to allow the world to enjoy the original pencil sketches that she created for Walt Disney's "it's a small world." Each page of the 12" x 18" calendar is printed in a high quality lithographic format. The calendar pages are blank on the reverse side. The pages each feature a specific character from the attraction with art actually measuring approx. 12" x 14" (slight variation for each page); suitable for framing:America - USA; Standing CowboyHungarian - RuralBaliSouth AfricaSpainIndiaFrance GermanySouth AmericanItalyMexicoJapan Notably, the Can-Can Dancer was originally conceived as shown... but during installation at the New York World's Fair... cracks to the surface on the figure's legs left Alice to add "pantaloons" at the last moment before the attraction could officially open. When Walt noticed the change, he asked "Alice, how come you put the pantaloons on the Can-Can girls?" To his question, Alice offered only this brief reply: "Well you told me you wanted a family show!"... bringing a chorus of laughter to all within hearing range. Suffice it to say... Alice's instincts were right again... and her "solution" has survived the test of time. Each page also includes hand-written notations from the hand of Alice Davis, describing the history and details of the costumes represented. About Us Combined Shipping Available Saturday’s Toys and Collectibles was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and media historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first online specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 16,000 coveted treasures since that time, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers and collectors throughout the globe. Today, online offerings of archival keepsakes are presented in celebration of the times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately represented by "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a nod to the Sherman Brothers): "Oh, let's go fly a kite!" We are glad to combine shipping for multiple purchases in order to reduce costs whenever possible. Simply let us know before processing payment for the items selected and we'll be glad to revise and forward a final invoice to reflect the combined shipping price. This usually works most effectively when combining flat paper items (postcards, newsletters, ephemera, etc.) but we'll do our best to make any combined purchase provide your best value for shipping.
