Description: January 1995 PRO MEMORIA No.1-2 English Language Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum Bulletin Offered for sale is Pro Memoria 1-2, the Bulletin of the State Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau and of the Foundation for the Commemoration of the Victims of Auschwitz-Birkenau Extermination Camp dated January 1995. According to auschwitz.org, ” 'Memoria' is an online magazine dedicated to the history of Auschwitz, the Holocaust as well as memory and education around the world.”. Number 66 appeared online in March 2023, we do not know if a print version still exists. The 8-⅛ x 11-½ inch, 72-page publication has stories written by survivors of the Nazi concentration camp, scholars and historians. One article is titled “Commemorating Auschwitz: Questions and Challenges”, another one is called “Between Auschwitz and Kolyma”, comparing the Nazi concentration camp to Stalin era gulags and famine in Ukraine. Others highlight the new KL Auschwitz-Birkenau Monument, mutual understanding and the religious challenge of Auschwitz, the new Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC, Terezin concentration camp in Czechoslovakia and more . There is an explanation of the International Council of the State Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau, book reviews, and information on other museums opened at former concentration camps such as Majdanek, Gross-Rosen, Stutthof and Treblinka.
