Description: A Totai shippo box. This lovely covered box is a true antique gem from Japan, dating back to the Meiji period. The box is truly original and a fine example of Japanese art. Very few artists worked cloisonn on ceramics due to it being in many respects more costly, needing days to fire pieces because the ceramic bodies would need to be slowly heated and cooled to reduce damage. Measurements- Approx 12cm D Condition-Satisfactory, this piece has some restoration to the bottom half. Cracks go through the bottom. Please look at photos before purchasing.
