Description: This charming and beautifully carved Japanese late Meiji netsuke is in the form of a rabbit with his ears back and feet tucked under its chubby body. It is carve out of very dense boxwood. The articulated face of the rabbit features inlaid bone eyes and the feet are carefully carved with detailed toes and foot pads.. The dome on the rabbit's back looks like a lid but it is carved out of the solid wood and has never been loose. The netsuke is 2 7/8" long x 1 3/8" wide x 1 3/4" tall. It has traces of black stain that suggest it was ebonized at one time. It has no damage cracks or breaks. I believe it dates to c. 1910. Stock number SA2D-2
