Description: Antique hand decorated sake cup dating to the Japanese occupation of Korea (Chosen) 1910-1945. Loosely translated inscription reads: 凱旋記念 - Commeration of a triumphant return 君が為め捧げし命永らへて今日故郷にかへうれしさ - Joy on this day I return to my native land, having long offered my life in service to the Emperor 朝鮮 - Chōsen - Korea under Japanese occupation The outside is this poem "The Spirit of the Japanese" by Motoori Norinaga:If someone wondershow to describe the spiritof the Japanese,say "mountain cherry blossoms,glowing in the morning sun." Beneath it says "特許 (patent) 四二三一四(42314)". Gilt around rim is worn with tiny rough spots and a miniscule chip. These came from a former gold camp (now on private land).
