Description: Japanese Samurai Musha Ningyo Warrior White Horse Unique antique Japanese Samurai Musha Ningyo Warrior Horses are rare and hard to find. These horses came in sets with a warrior or were sold alone; they were handmade, so no two are alike. This model was likely made between 1900-1940. He is an antique Japanese Samurai Musha Ningyo Warrior White Horse in full regalia made in Japan. He is a white horse constructed of wood, paper, brocade & metal with traditional orange passementerie (fringe and tassels). A white horse hair mane and tail. Based on the models from the Meiji era (A.D. 1868-1912), this toy horse doll was designed as a gift to celebrate the Boy's Day, or Tango-No-Sekku. A white horse historically symbolized the god of the sun in the Japanese religion of Shinto. Horses were widely used in warfare throughout Japanese history and the Samurai class prided themselves on their horsemanship. He is highly detailed and well-made - a stunning example of this lost art. Horse figurine: 9 1/2” Base the horse stands on 11” length x 5” width This horse has been in my family for many generations and, for the last 80+ years, was displayed in my grandparents' dining room. The item is dusty in some areas from being displayed and part of the right stirrup broke off. Otherwise, the horse is in great condition for its age.
