Seto Sometsuke瀬戸染付(blue & white) ware is a traditional craft made in Seto city(瀬戸市), Aichi JapanPainted with skillful technique called *Copperplate-printed transfer(銅板転写).Copperplate-printed transfer is a technique, the design is copperplate printed on Japanese washi paper and the paper is stuck onto bisqueware and water applied to transfer the design.(please see photo 11-13)The back of the mug is singned with ”椿窯(Tsubakigama)" in Kanji.※Seto ware(瀬戸焼) is one of the world's most renowned and rare production areas, which has continuously been producing pottery for almost 1000 years. In Japan, the word "setomono" refers to “pottery”.It is a rare production area in Japan where both pottery and porcelain are fired. Porcelains are characterized by beautiful blue paintings using a pigment called Gosu(呉須).
