Jerusalem Old City mug ceramic VINTAGE large Blue Multi w/ deer flowers pottery

Description: This is a vintage ceramic or pottery mug or cup which is signed Jerusalem Old City with either a date or initials underneath, I am not sure. If it is a date it looks like '76 (written with a line through the 7 as is normal outside the U.S.) or possibly '96, but the cup is older than that so it cannot be from the '90s in my opinion. It is a large cup that can easily hold 12 ounces of liquid. Other examples of this type of pottery bear the same signature/stamp and some identify the cup as being from 1976. but since I am not the original owner I cannot attest to that-I can certainly say it is vintage and I would guess no later than the '70s. It was made in Jerusalem so I have listed the origin as Israel but some of this pottery is identified as Armenian or Palestinian; in the Old City all these cultures coexist so any of these is possible. This cup is somewhat unusually pretty with a very glossy cobalt blue finish, off-white interior and a hand-painted design that features a leaping white male deer (with horns) in a stylized forest, with branches, leaves and flowers in multiple colors, including green, yellow and brown,which are set off well by the cobalt blue background. The handle is square-shaped. There is a turquoise blue highlight around the lip of the cup and on the sides of the handle. The nature scene as painted really reminds the viewer of medieval tapestries such as the ones featuring the maiden and the unicorn-these are perhaps the best-known but there are many surviving such tapestries. The blue color is quite vivid and would go well with a collection of blue or blue and white pottery, or in a blue and white kitchen. All the painted colors are equally bright and true on top of the blue background. CONDITION NOTES: As noted above and shown in the photos, this large-capacity mug or cup is in overall very nice vintage condition, with no chips, cracks or breaks, a strong, well-attached handle, and a very intact painted design. There is minor shelf-wear on the bottom of the cup, which is normal for a vintage cup or even any that has been used or displayed for any length of time. The only condition issue that I would point out is that there is some crazing inside the cup, underneath the handle-oddly enough the pattern looks like a menorah-so please check the photos to make sure this crazing will not bother you before buying. There is also some discoloration in the indentations that are inside where the handle is attached; this might come out with further soaking or other attention if it bothers you, or you could just use it as a display piece. Please check all photos and read descriptive sections before buying, since this is a vintage item and is being sold in its current vintage condition, as it is right now; I have tried to include numerous photos and close-ups of the areas inside the cup (the last group of photos) so please check those in particular-you can use eBay's magnifying function. The box adds some weight to the total and it does factor into the cost unless you use a flat rate box, but the only viable one for a mug or cup is the medium box, which is currently $18.40 the last time I checked (they rise prices at a dizzying speed). So, this smaller Priority box is the best option I can find for shipping items the size of cups.
