Description: Jet Eyes BELL X-1 “Model 44 X-Plane” S/N 46-062 Extremely rare tag portraying “Glamorous Glennis” as flown by Chuck Yeager! #17 of only 80 produced Y’all already know they’re long sold out! This one is an absolute stunner This tag is loaded with character including stencilling and edge fastener holes It is an awesome specimen regardless of its lineage It would appear that my desire to retain is far below the buyer's desire to acquire What can I say, the market has spoken The Bell X-1 Model 44 was a rocket engine–powered aircraft originally designated as the XS-1 It was a joint National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics – US Army Air Forces/US Air Force supersonic research project built by Bell Aircraft Conceived during 1944, designed and built in 1945 Achieved a speed of nearly 1000mph or 870kn in 1948 A derivative of this same design, the Bell X-1A, had a greater fuel capacity and hence longer rocket burning time, exceeded 1600mph in 1954 The X-1 aircraft #46-062 ‘Glamorous Glennis’ was flown by Chuck Yeager as the first piloted airplane to exceed the speed of sound in level flight This X-1 was also the first of the X-plane series of American experimental rocket/non-rocket planes designed for testing new technologies The Lockheed T2V SeaStar was a carrier-capable jet trainer for the United States Navy that entered service in May 1957 Developed from the Lockheed T-33 and powered by an Allison J33 engine In 1949 the US Navy used the Lockheed T-33 for land-based jet aircraft training. It was a derivative of the Lockheed P-80/F-80 fighter and was initially named the TO-2. Ironically the TV-2 was never suitable for aircraft carrier operations. The need for a carrier-compatible trainer led to a further development of the P-80/T-33 family arriving at the Lockheed L-245 or USN T2V The L-245 demonstrator first flew on 16th December 1953 with delivery commencing in 1956 The T2V was almost totally re-engineered for carrier landings and at-sea operations with a redesigned tail, naval standard avionics, a strengthened undercarriage with catapult fittings and lower fuselage with a retractable arrestor hook, power-operated leading-edge flaps permitting lower speed carrier launches/recoveries and an elevated rear seat for improved instructor visibility. The T2V could withstand the shock of landing on a pitching carrier deck and had a much higher ability to withstand sea water-related aircraft wear from higher humidity and salt exposure The only version of the T2V was initially designated T2V-1 when it entered service, but was redesignated T-1A SeaStar under the 1962 US Tri-Service aircraft designation system This tag was cut from material from this aircraft Happy April 1st Y’all
