Description: This is a rare January 16th, 1933 programme (playbill) from the Provincial Tour engagement of the JOHANN STRAUSS Love Story of Music "WALTZES FROM VIENNA" at the Prince of Wales Theatre in Birmingham, England. (The production premiered on October 30th, 1930 at the Stadttheater in Vienna, Austria. The Original West End production opened August 17th, 1931 at the Alhambra Theatre in London and ran for 607 performances. The Original Broadway production, with the title changed to "The Great Waltz", would open September 22nd, 1934 at New York's Center Theatre and close June 8th, 1935 after 298 performances.) ..... The musical starred DONALD MATHER as "Johann Strauss, Jr." and the cast included DOROTHY FISHER, EDDIE GARR, JAMES LESLIE, LANCE FAIRFAX, HELEN BREEN, RONA VANSTON, LOUIS du CANE, MURIEL CRONSHAW, AMBROSE MANNING, CLIFTON BOYNE, DEREK DARE, REGINALD MATTHEWS, JESS SWEET, ERNEST LESTER and SYLVIA PHIPPS and the Corps de Ballet ..... DETAILS: The twelve page playbill measures 5 3/4" X 8 5/8" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers, program notes and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos or bios ..... CONDITION: (Please Note!) There is moderate to heavy creasing, a tear in the front cover under the seal, a seam split below the staple and minor rust marks at the staple. Despite these flaws, this rare playbill will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
