Description: Poetic portraits of people, relationships, and places. The images evoke the concept of memory and capture the expanse and breath of the photographer's experiences. John Flattau was born in New York City and was educated at Brown University, the University of Edinburgh and Harvard Law School. He has been a professional photographer since the 1980s. He has had over fifteen solo exhibitions of his work, including the International Center of Photography; the Witkin Gallery in New York; Galerie Agathe Gaillard and Galerie du Carré D´or in Paris; the Borey Art Gallery in St. Petersburg; and, during 2000 - 2001, five shows throughout Cuba. Additionally, his work has been included in many group exhibitions and published in five books: Bridges (Lustrum Press, 1985); Photographs (Witkin Gallery, 1993); Les Rendez-Vous de Margaret (Lustrum Press, 1994); Rue Obscure: Vague Regret (landa, 1996); and Recent Memories (landa, 2002), the latter being just published for this eponymous exhibition at Leica Gallery.
