JOHN STEPHENS COPPIN 1904-1986 JOHN STEPHENS COPPIN is a Listed Artist whose works are sold worldwide. "The ELEVENTH HOUR" is signed by the artist, "COPPIN" in graphite in the lower right corner. This original Signed DRAWING was placed in a beautiful new frame in the original vintage Matte from the Artist's estate that is just ready to hang on the wall of your Museum, Home or Office. This Artwork measures approximately 8" x 5" and the Frame measures an overall 18" x 15." There is also this engraved brass plaque attached to the bottom of the frame that reads: John S. Coppin was born in Ontario, Canada in 1904 and died at age 81, in Sarasota, Florida. He accomplished much of his famous art at his gallery in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. For 40 years, John painted the covers of AAA Motor News. (Michigan Living magazine) Noted personalities who posed for him include actor Sir Alec Guiness and eccentric artist Sadakichi Hartmann. The HARTMANN PORTRAIT is displayed in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. He considered his murals entitled "Man and Transportation" hanging in the Detroit Public Library among his finest work. Coppin was educated at Stratford Collegiate Institute, John Wicker School Of Art in Detroit and Study Tours of Europe. He was a member of American Federation of Artists and a Fellow of International Institute of Arts and Letters. He is listed in "Who's Who in the Midwest," International "Who's Who in Art and Antiques" and "Who's Who in American Art." He was awarded the Scarab Club Gold Medal in Detroit for three years, the Institute of Arts Popular Prize for four years and the Carl F. Clarke Award in 1953, the Hartwig Prize in 1953 among others. He was commissioned to paint portraits of HENRY FORD, General Motors President JAMES M. ROCHE, GENERAL WILLIAM KNUDSEN, ALVIN MACAULY, Mrs. ALFRED GLANCY, Symphony Conductor PAUL PARAY and Sir ALEC GUINNESS.
