A Smuggler’s Bible is McElroy’s first novel and was generally reviewed very well. Because of its difficult structure and non linear composition, its often referred to as a difficult novel, and like McElroy’s other works, is compared to the works of William Gaddis & Thomas Pynchon. McElroy said A Smuggler’s Bible "is like everybody's first novel, trying to put too much between covers. ...[I]t's a young book, and young people still seem to like it." McElroy taught creative writing at UNH and Queens College until 1995 when he retired. He’s written 9 novels to date. . The book is in VG+ condition with some soiling and trace fading to top stain. The binding is quite tight and straight. Clean interior. Jacket in VG or better. Some rubbing to the front panel and slight toning to the spine. .
