JUDY GARLAND - CONTRACT SIGNED 07/20/1962 - HFSID 160699 JUDY GARLAND Judy Garland signed this contract in 1962 to put on a two-week show at Harrah's Tahoe. Contract signed: "Judy Garland" for Kingsrow Enterprises, Inc. and by a representative of Harrah's Tahoe of Edgewood, Nevada, both in blue ink. Also initialed "J. G." in blue ink on page 3. 3 pages, 8½x11. July 20, 1962. According to this contract, Kingsrow Enterprises was to give a daily 75-minute show in the South Shore Room at Harrah's Tahoe for two consecutive weeks beginning no later than March 1, 1963, with the star being selected by Harrah's Tahoe. Kingsrow Enterprises agreed to pay Harrah's Tahoe for 28 musicians, stage crew, conductor, librettist and arranger - indeed, most of the personnel required to put on this show. In 1962, Garland lent her voice to the Chuck Jones cartoon Gay Purr-ee and appeared in Judgment at Nuremberg, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The multi-talented Garland (1922-1969) sang on stage with her sisters in the late 1920s and appeared on records and films from 1936, but her breakthrough to superstardom came with her role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz (1939), singing her signature song Over the Rainbow. A competent actress and superbly gifted singer, Garland won an Oscar (with 2 more nominations), three Grammys (plus 6 of her recordings in the Grammy Hall of Fame), a Tony, and at least three Emmy nominations during her legendary career. By the late 1940s, her film career was suffering as a result of personal problems, including struggles with alcohol and the barbiturates that finally killed her, but she made a dazzling comeback in concert tours of the 1960s, especially Judy at Carnegie Hall (1961). Garland is the mother of actress Liza Minnelli and screenwriter/producer Lorna Luft. Lightly toned, stained and creased. Staple and file holes at top edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
