Description: Editions d'Art de Rambouillet makes the best reproductions of antique tapestries in the world. This tapestry was made in France in May of 1993 by Andre Demay, using the silk screening process, which is far superior to today's standard jacquard loom weaving. In my opinion, if you find a better looking tapestry than a Rambouillet, it is an original. If you search for "Rambouillet tapestry" on Youtube, you can find some videos going over the history of the company and the process they use. The tapestry is a 1784 design, titled Le Portique de Junon (The Portico of Juno), and now hangs at the Gobelins Museum in Paris. It was produced in Neoclassical style five years before the French Revolution and resulting wars, which essentially ruined the tapestry industry. If there had been no French Revolution, there probably would have been many more amazing Neoclassical tapestries produced like this one. The tapestry is filled with the symbolism of the goddess Juno, wife of Jupiter (the equivalent of Hera, wife of Zeus). Peacocks and peacock feathers are scattered throughout, being the symbol of Hera. A pair of Putti play the flute and pan flute. The whole scene is just exquisite and rich with detail. I had this hanging in my living room for several years and it looked great. You can see a few pictures of that at the end. Rod not included. I'm only selling it because I hung another tapestry there and have no space for it. There is a brown backing with steel bars for hanging, and also has a rod pocket. The tapestry measures roughly 37" x 48". It is 24% cotton, 26% wool, 24% linen, and 26% viscose. If you have questions or want more detailed pictures, just email me. It has no smell. Sold as is. No returns.
